Axiom 61

For the past few months, I have been sizing up keyboard controllers in order to find the right one to make my project studio sessions a bit more productive. I’ve considered controllers from CME, Edirol, Emu, Evolution (now M-Audio), and Novation.

Just when I was trying to choose between CME and Edirol, this nifty thing comes along from M-Audio: The Axiom 61. Pretty darn cool. A backlit LCD, semi-weighted keys, knobs, faders, function keys, a numeric entry keypad, trigger pads, and, of course, transport controls. Not overkill, and laid out pretty nicely. If only the Axiom line was available in a 76 or 88-key version. I’d be all over it. Then again, my project desk isn’t quite wide enough for 88 keys. I just might buy the Axiom 61. If I do, I’ll let you know, and let you know how it alters my life – or at least helps me get things a bit more under control.
