Off-Shore Scoring?
In my other life in the world of software development, I see a trend in the IT industry to farm out work to India. Even U.S. computer maker Dell channels much of their hardware sales through India. Apparently, there are a large number of computer-savvy individulas in India ready to work for USA-based companies for far less than U.S. wages.
Now this got me thinking. The USA is arguably the world’s largest producer (as in origination) of computer software. Even so, many software development companies are electing to have some portion of development done overseas - primarily in India. Now, in the world of film, India is undoubtedly the world’s largest producer of motion pictures - turning out over a thousand feature films every year. With all those films being made, perhaps “Bollywood” has some scoring work that they could have done “off-shore”, by, say, me, here in Southern Califorina.
Hey, it can be hard to find work in Hollywood. Maybe a number of low-paying gigs from India would make up for any one local job.
Of course, I’ll need to study-up on my ragas, as well as compose a few filmi pieces for my demo reel. I’ll let you know when I land a “Bollywood” gig.
